  • Callaway's new Apex UW wood blends a fairway wood and hybrid together for wild distance and accuracy. The UW is easy to hit and crazy long, but also lets skilled players work the ball however they would like. Graphite Design's new Tour AD UB shaft is a new stout mid launch and mid/low spin shaft. Smooth and tight, this shaft takes a little more of the left side out of shots.

Great reviews. I am about to try the Tour AD UB 50s and Speeder NX 50s on the course today. My Ventus Blue 50s is going to take a lot to beat as its the best I have used in my Sim2 10.5 head all season.

I play a club that this reminds me of. It's a 3/FW hybrid. Has a longer shaft 40.5 but looks and plays like a hybrid. Lower launch but same distance as a 7 wood. It's my fairway finder and my par 5 green in two finder!!
    I covet that shaft now.

Love to play the UB in 6x. What is the recommended swing speed and tempo for this shaft.

you mentioned you don't love fairway woods, what do you think about using the 17 degree as a possible 3w replacement, and keeping a 4 hybrid/utility iron? i'm very intrigued by this club because I also don't love FW woods, but looking for a fairway finder, and looking to go hybrid/UT iron for long par 3's (~215 for me).
also any rec's for higher launch shafts other than ventus red? i also hit the ball relatively low

I think that is a decent idea, but you will need to check your gapping. I don't know if the 17* will be flying the same length as 3w but it could be close. Try the Nippon Regio Formula M+ or the VA Composites Slay

I an thinking of going driver, 17 & 21 utility woods then irons through wedges! I only play courses around 6000-6200y so thinking this setup could work!

Reminds me of the old Titleist 980F! (On Steroids) Phil used to carry it. Not surprised that he loves the UW! The 17* launches low! Gonna have to find a higher launching aftermarket. 19 & 21 is ok with stock rdx.

It’s a .335 tip. So fairway shaft will have to be used.

So the callaway apex uw a 0.335 tip?

It's not a hybrid. Not sure why you're trying to make it one.

I think the design allows it to be both. The stepped sole and shorter shaft than a fairway gives it the versatility to play as either in my mind.
